Drives
DEMAG offers a wide range of drives for driving, hoisting, positioning, repetitive movement devices and slewing. At the moment, DEMAG has two motor series, i.e. the KB brake motor, known worldwide because of its proven concept with integrated robust slide anchor brake and the recently developed Z cylinder anchor motor fitted either with or without electromechanical disc brake.

The DEMAG slide anchor motor, type KB, with a maximum capacity of up to 75 kW, is known worldwide because of its integrated robust slide anchor brake which allows for high switching frequencies and high braking torque. These motors can also be supplied for continuous use. The brake motor has a straightforward design and there are no additional switch elements or connections required. Switching the motor on, creates a rotating field whereby the motor rotates and is axially moved, which lifts the brake. The motor brakes by means of a built-in spring when the voltage drops. Within this series, DEMAG also offers slip ring anchor motors and stationary motors. The motor can be used as a "stand-alone" unit but also be supplied with an extended gear-box in a helical, offset or angular version.

Apart from the slide anchor brake motors, DEMAG has developed a new series of Z cylinder anchor motors for general drive applications. This motor type is usually fitted with an (electromechanical) brake. The motors are available with a single speed or a terminal reverse switch with two speeds. The motors are particularly suitable for addressing by a frequency regulator.

For the DEMAG drive range, a special calculation program has been developed for drive calculation and selection, involving processing of all application data and requirements in order to achieve the best possible drive combination.

Gear-boxes
For the KB and Z motor series, DEMAG developed a new gear-box program. The KB motor series is fitted with a coupling in between the motor and gear-box. The advantage is that there is a so-called dry coupling space between the motor and gear-box resulting in easy dismantling of the motor for e.g. revision or inspection without having to drain any oil. The Z motor series can be supplied in a coupling version or with a direct pinion drive to the gear-box, which allows for very competitive drive prices.

Using a modular approach for the Z and KB motor series and the new range of type D, A and W gear-boxes, DEMAG managed to reduce the number of parts. As a result, this drive range can be offered at very competitive prices. The drives distinguish themselves by:

• A wide range of transmissions
• Diversity with regard to extension possibilities
• Ample choice with regard to drive shaft design
• Suitability for low and high environmental temperatures
• Suitability for use in extreme surroundings
• Two different brake sizes available for each motor size.
• Adjustable braking moment depending on its application.

The new DEMAG gear-box series includes:
• Helical gear-box D
• Offset gear-box A
• Angular gear-box W

Helical gear-box type D
Gear-box type D can be supplied with foot or flange drives in 9 sizes. Sizes D10 to D40 included are made of aluminium ensuring that a low deadweight can still result in a robust drive. Sizes D50 tot D90 included are made with a cast-iron housing. The gear-boxes have a standard two-stage design. With the sizes D20 to D90 included, the choice of possible transmission ratios can be increased considerably by means of an additional input stage. The gear-boxes are supplied with transmission ratios of minimal 2.88 to maximum 220. The permissible torque varies depending on the gear-box size and the maximum transmission ratio of approx. 5.800 Nm.

Offset gear-box type A
On account of the offset A type gear-box design, it can often be used in areas with limited space. There is a wide range of output and hollow shafts and extension possibilities, such as offset gear-boxes with torque support, but foot or flange designs are also possible. As a travelling drive this type of gear-box is often the ideal solution.

In this case, just as with the D gear-box, the housing of the A10 to A40 series included is made of aluminium. Sizes A50 tot A90 included are made with a cast-iron housing. Size A10 has a two-stage design. Sizes A20 to A90 included are either 2 or 3-stage depending on the required transmission ratio. The gear-boxes are supplied with transmission ratios of 3.69 min. to 281 max. Permissible torque varies, depending on the gear-box size and the maximum transmission ratio of approx. 11.500 Nm.

Angular gear-box type W
This type of gear-box can often also be used in areas where space is restricted. There is a wide range of output and hollows shafts, extension possibilities with torque support, flange and foot drives. The angular gear-box can be supplied in 10 sizes.

Sizes W10 to W50 included are fitted with hypoid gearing. Sizes W60 to W100 included are fitted with conical gears or worm/worm wheel transmission.

Even on low capacities these drives produce little noise and performances are relatively effective. Sizes W10 to W40 included are made of aluminium. Sizes W50 to W100 included are made of cast-iron. Sizes W10 to W50 included are either 2 or 3-stage. Sizes W60 to W100 included, can, depending on the transmission ratio, be produced with 3 or 4-stages.

The gear-boxes are supplied with transmission ratios of 3.73 min. to 485 max. The permissible torque varies depending on the gear-box's size and the maximum transmission ratio of approx. 12.000 Nm.
