DEMAG's patented wheel sets RS and DRS present an innovative solution for use in traverses and transport wagons, travelling cranes and general machine engineering. The DRS Wheel Block is the successor of and an addition to the RS type wheel blocks developed approximately 15 years ago. Construction-wise, however, there are three major differences:
The DRS wheel can be changed without disassembling the block
As a result of a different construction concept, larger wheel bearings can be used for the same wheel diameter, which considerably increases permissible wheel pressure for the DRS wheel block.
The drive is mounted directly onto the wheel block.
In combination with one or two drives, wheel blocks can easily be installed underneath a construction allowing a transport wagon being build using standard components.
Consequently, in case of a failure, wheel blocks or wheels can be changed quickly reducing any production standstill to a minimum.
Wheel block housings up to DRS 250 size are made of aluminium, whereas in the case of DRS315, DRS400 and DRS500 the housing is made of cast iron. Housings of the RS series are made of steel plate.
With the DRS series, the traversing wheels, made of nodular cast iron, hydropur or polyamide, can easily be changed without having to disassemble the block. Traversing wheels may be fitted with single or double flanges, without flanges or fitted with a special socket.
By means of a connecting plate, a drive equipped with an output shaft or hollow shaft with a separate output shaft can be fitted directly to the wheel block turning it into a compact drive unit. Motor options include a single drive speed, normal and creep speed or variable speed with frequency control.
It is quite easy to mount a buffer or counter-guide on the wheel block.
DEMAG's DRS112 range includes wheel blocks with a maximum wheel load of 2,750 kg, whereas the DRS500 series can cope with a maximum wheel load of 40,000 kg. The sizes of the RS series range from RS125 to RS400.
