In the world of industrial manufacturing, everything revolves around reliability, efficiency, and safety. At voestalpine Bunschoten, a specialist in metal processing and part of the international Metal Forming Division of voestalpine, they understand this like no other. When there was a need for a new overhead crane in Hall 23, the choice was quickly made: ELMEC B.V.
Gerard, who has been working at voestalpine for 37 years and currently serves as Reliability Engineer, shares his experience: “Our molds and coils are simply too heavy for forklifts. Overhead cranes are essential to our processes. This crane needs to transport coils from one end of the hall to the other and supply two production lines with materials.”

ELMEC delivered a custom-made overhead crane that not only meets the technical requirements but also excels in user-friendliness and safety. Based on ELMEC’s advice, a robust remote control was selected. An identical version was also delivered for the crane in Hall 22, along with a backup control unit with a selector switch, usable for both cranes – a practical solution that ensures operational continuity.
Extra attention was paid to safety. At voestalpine’s request, the new crane was equipped with so-called bluespots: bright blue warning lights that alert staff to an approaching crane. In addition, advanced zone and collision protection systems were installed on the crane. The zone protection prevents loads from coming into contact with vulnerable equipment such as presses. The collision protection ensures that the new crane in Hall 23 and the existing crane in Hall 22 detect each other and stop when approaching.

Gerard is more than satisfied with the project: “The schedule was met precisely, no aftercare was needed, and everything worked perfectly from the start. Working with ELMEC was seamless.”
